Over the next three years, COFA READY will strengthen Palau’s disaster
readiness by upgrading 14 emergency evacuation centers, establishing 10
strategically located warehouses stocked with non-food relief supplies, enhancing
disaster management information system and building operational capacity through
targeted training exercises and regional exchanges.
“Today marks the beginning of an important evolution in our readiness partnership
and the United States remains deeply committed to our partnership with Palau to
support the country’s resilience, sovereignty, and prosperity,” said U.S. Chargé
d’Affaires Shankar Rao.
In Palau, as part of the broader $125.7 million COFA READY program, the U.S.
Department of State will support readiness across Palau, the Federated States of
Micronesia (FSM), and the Republic of the Marshall Islands (RMI). In addition to
recovery readiness activities in all three countries, COFA READY funds large-
scale reconstruction in FSM following the devastating impacts of Super Typhoon
Sinlaku in April 2026.
COFA READY builds on more than 15 years of U.S. investment in disaster
readiness across the Freely Associated States. It reflects the strong and enduring
partnership between the United States and Palau, and the United States enduring
commitment to delivering on the Compacts of Free Association with the Freely
Associated States.
